This is going to be an amazing experience. We will spend 3 days and 2 nights shooting in the Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forrest and learning about landscape photography. We will car camp at the gorgeous, secluded Coral Pass Campground (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mbs/recreation/recarea/?recid=18092&actid=29) which is a beautiful, wooded primitive campground. Sorry… no showers but they do have outhouses that are always clean.
From here we’ll do some very easy, short hikes. One will be through a meadow of wildflowers and another will be a 1.25 mile easy hike at sunset and sunrise to a ridge overlooking Mt. Rainier. Trust me, it’s beautiful both along the way and when you get there. It’s very easy to hike back after dark with a flashlight.
At camp, we’ll talk photography, discuss landscape photography methods and do some light painting. We’ll camp, build a fire and cook our meals on camp stoves.
Along the way, I’ll be covering the following topics and more:
- Landscape composition
- Proper use of and tips on using a tripod
- HDR methods for landscapes
- Seeing the light
- Choosing the best lens for a specific landscape scene or composition
- Getting the right exposure
- Using filters in the field
- Light painting at night
- Shooting the stars
On Sunday, we’ll head over to Mt. Rainier National Park for a morning of shooting before heading back mid-afternoon. We’ll shoot Reflection Lakes and Paradise Falls and learn how to use long exposures in the daytime.
This will be an intimate workshop limited to 12 people. We can carpool from Bellevue Park and Ride or other convenient locations. Any camera is okay. You will be responsible for your own tents and food however we can pool our cooking resources. Coffee and tea will be provided each morning.
Also included, you will be able to submit 5-10 images from the outing for a one-to-one critique/discussion during the week after the workshop.
